Canadian writer David Morrell created the Green Beret character "John Rambo". His novel was later adapting for on screen. It cemented his position as one of the top American male stars of the 1980s. Stallone was riding high in his popularity and fame, pleaded with Rocky Balboa, his sparring companion, to return to the arena to defend American spirit against The Soviet threat. This was an Russian boxer called Ivan Drago played by Curt Dolph Lundgren. This fourth film was a bit controversial among "Rocky" enthusiasts, due to the fact that there was an overly violent tone compared with previous "Rocky" movies, particularly in the brutal assault suffered from Apollo Creed, played by Carl Weathers, at the at the hands of the unstoppable "Siberian Express".
